This was the third hotel we booked into during our recent holiday in Sri Lanka and first impressions were good. Check in was quick as our bags taken to our room. The room was spacious and clean and just as described. Unfortunately I had an accident, falling down the step when coming out of the En Suite facilities in the room and can not fault the hotel staff for all their assistance in getting me to hospital. The hotel staff kindly arranged dinner for us upon return from hospital and breakfast the next day was good. Hotel is in Galle Fort and all the sights are easily accessable on foot or by tuk tuk.
In general could be a nice hotel but....
...I Booked a double room. Got one of the rooms on the ground floor, walls and bathroom are completely moulded and just overpainted. Of course really a bad smell. After my complaint we got the junior suite which is around 10 m2 with shared bathroom. I got no money back but the room was on Booked.net with half of the price i paid. There are 2 nice rooms in the first floor but this is twins rooms. No option from the manager to sleep in one of these rooms. Don't book this hotel - you will not get what you expect and there is no room for improvement and understanding from the manager !!!
Nice little hotel with "atmosphare". Good starting point for exploring Galle.
Our room in basement had only window to atrium/corridor, quite dark. Only one and same satelite channel could be chosen centrally for all rooms.
Cleanliness, efficiency of staff
Closed Friday so beware if arriving without a booking
Our room on the first floor was tiny for 2 people with no ensuite - when booking we assumed that at that price all bedrooms would have an ensuite bathroom. We arrived on a Friday around 12 pm, and after we had organised our room we discovered we were locked into the building. There were no staff on site, and another guest with a baby in a sling was unable to get into the building, and we could not get out. If there was a fire we would have been burnt alive. The staff had not told us they were leaving and locking the door. Apparently there is a sign on the outside of the building stating that the door is locked on Fridays between 12 and 3 pm but we were unaware of it. There was not fire escape or alternative exit. It was a totally unacceptable situation and I would encourage people to boycott the hotel.
Charming Good location Staff listening to complaints and doing everything to find a solution.
The bedding is old and not suited, ie in the morning we were partly sleeping on the mattress. No proper bathroom/ shower
Staff were incredibly attentive and helpful. Arranged travel/tuk-tuks, provided restaurant recs, and served breakfast promptly when asked. Location was excellent - steps from any major attraction in the fort. Room was immaculately clean. It's not a luxury hotel, so dont go in expecting too much, but for what I paid I was incredibly happy with the place. I would definitely stay here again.
The bathroom did not have a shower stall. Instead, it just had a shower head and you showered in the entire bathroom - not bad, just kind of weird. Also, the door frames are very low - I am 6'2" and bumped my head many times!!
My fault...........I did'nt read the fine print, Muslim Hotel, arrived hot after long journey, wanted a cold beer and of course, not to be had. Went to go for early morning walk, door locked, dangerous in case of fire etc. Noisy building works going on on sunday afternoon, temporary but still annoying.
Staff, good location in the Galle Fort, tasty breakfast.
Rather strange and inconvenient bathrooms.
Excellent little hotel. Very well fitted out, tastefully decorated with antique furniture, exceptionally clean and well maintained. The only meal we had was breakfast, which was pretty good.
The bathroom was not en suite. In fact none of the rooms seemed to have attached bathrooms. Also, we were told that except for breakfast, no other meals / snacks would be available as they were repairing the kitchen.
It was inside the Galle fort. The location was excellent.
the staff did not seem friendly and there was no one on reception most of the time. There were no tea or coffee making facilities. The excuse being the kettle was broken. They offerred to make hot water for us. The television was small and old and had very few channels, which were difficult to see. The bathroom was large glazed shower block in the corner of the room, containing a toilet and shower, which was not very clean - the toilet mat geting soaked when we had a shower. At breakfast I asked for another pot of tea (for2), which arrived with one tea bag. I was told that this was a gift and would not be charged!
Beautifull place. Located in the Galle fort. Nice breakfast, clean rooms. I had a complaint about noisy guest which we Managers solved in a good way.
Wifi is not availlable in the rooms, they claim to have wifi in the whole hotel, which is not the case. Smelly airco, you have to shower in the toilet: there is no showering curten or cabine, so this little bathroom is completely wet.
Good atmosphere; elegant tiled appearance. Pleasant low-key staff; nice breakfast, nicely served.
Very hot; the lovely sea- breeze was totally blocked by surrounding buildings; room a/c did not funtion well - probably needed a service. Bathroom architecture was weird - impossible to shower without flooding everywhere!
The staff were very attentive and helpful. The breakfast was simple but decent
It was too expensive for what it was. The location was ok, but I would have preferred to stay at one of the hotels overlooking the ocean. There are a lot of hotels there that do not appear on search engines. I suggest just arriving there and looking around, as there are many noce hotels available in the Fort. Galle is not worth a stay of more than one day, and it may make more sense staying in Unawatuna beach and taking a tuk-tuk during the day to come see the fort, as there is nothing special there and it can be seen in a couple hours.
Always lots of help around, Quiet location off main road. Let us use another room to store luggage and showed after check out time. Aimed to please.
